UCLA beach volleyball players Sally Perez, a sophomore, and Maggie Boyd, a senior, have been named both the AVCA/CBVB and MPSF/Molten Pair of the Week after achieving a 4-0 record at the Battle for LA. The pair secured wins on court 1 against teams from No. 3 Cal Poly, No. 11 Long Beach State, Boise State, and Pepperdine.
Boyd reached a milestone with her victory over Pepperdine’s Emma Eden and Michaela Cyrani on Saturday, becoming the 11th player in UCLA history to record 100 career wins. Of those wins, 39 have come alongside Perez, making them tied for fifth in school history as a duo.
Perez and Boyd played a key role in UCLA’s win over Cal Poly on Friday afternoon by defeating All-Americans Ella Connor and Erin Iskeep with scores of 21-16, 19-21, 15-10. On Saturday morning, they also overcame Long Beach State All-Americans Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah by scores of 21-14 and 21-16. This prevented the Long Beach State pair from reaching their own milestone of 100 career wins.
The statement from UCLA Athletics notes: “With the win over Pepperdine’s Emma Eden/Michaela Cyrani on Saturday, Boyd became the 11th Bruin in school history to record 100 career wins. She has 39 of her 100 wins with Perez, which ranks the duo tied for No. 5 in school history.”
Currently ranked second nationally, Perez and Boyd are now 8-1 this season. They are also the reigning MPSF pair of the year.
This is the third time that Perez and Boyd have received the MPSF/Molten Pair of the Week award. For Boyd individually, it marks her fifth time earning conference pair of the week honors—tying her with Peri Brennan, Megan McNamara, Nicole McNamara, and Savvy Simo for most such awards in school history.
The AVCA/CBVB Pair of the Week award was previously given this season to Emily Donley and Portia Sherman from California (Feb. 22), while Zoey Henson and Sarah Wood from USC won the first MPSF/Molten Pair of the Week honor (Feb. 22). Perez and Boyd were recognized on March 3 for both awards.
