Junior shortstop Roch Cholowsky of the top-ranked UCLA baseball team was named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week, according to a March 16 announcement. Cholowsky’s performance helped lead the Bruins to a perfect 4-0 record, including their second consecutive Big Ten sweep.
This is the first time Cholowsky has received a Big Ten weekly award. His offensive output stood out in the conference, as he hit .615 with two home runs, nine runs batted in, five runs scored, and 14 total bases over four games. He recorded at least one hit in each game and had two games with three hits each. Over the week, he reached base twelve times through eight hits, two walks, and two hit-by-pitches.
Cholowsky is currently batting .368 with an on-base percentage of .500 and a slugging percentage of .868 for the season. He has hit ten home runs so far this year, which ties him for the most among Division I shortstops.
His contributions have been key during a strong stretch for UCLA baseball. The Bruins improved their overall record to 17-2 and remain undefeated in Big Ten play at 6-0. This marks UCLA’s best start to a league campaign since 1977.
The recognition highlights both Cholowsky’s individual achievements and UCLA’s strong performance early in the season.
