The UCLA Bruins men’s basketball team, currently holding a 17-9 overall record and 9-6 in conference play, is set to host the No. 10-ranked Illinois at Pauley Pavilion this Saturday at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast nationally on FOX.
UCLA has five games remaining in its regular season, with three of those matchups scheduled at home. The upcoming contest against Illinois marks the first time the Bruins have hosted the Illini since December 30, 1997. In their last meeting, Illinois defeated UCLA 83-78 in Champaign during the previous season.
Recent performance for UCLA includes consecutive road losses to Michigan and Michigan State. Against Michigan State, Tyler Bilodeau led with 22 points while Skyy Clark contributed 12 points after returning from injury. This season marks the first time since 2020-21 that UCLA has held a 17-9 record through its first 26 games.
Tyler Bilodeau has been a consistent performer for the Bruins, scoring at least ten points in each of the last nineteen games and averaging nearly nineteen points and six-and-a-half rebounds over the past ten contests. He leads five Bruins who average double figures this season and is ranked among conference leaders in both scoring and shooting percentage.
Trent Perry has also made significant contributions, scoring at least ten points in ten of UCLA’s last twelve games and achieving a career-high thirty points earlier this year against Penn State.
Senior guard Donovan Dent stands out for his playmaking ability, having averaged nearly seven assists per game along with thirteen points per contest. He became the first player in program history to record point-assist double-doubles in three straight games since assists were routinely tracked starting in the late seventies.
Skyy Clark leads UCLA in three-point shooting percentage after missing part of the season due to injury but returning recently to bolster the lineup.
Defensively, recent seasons have seen multiple Bruins earn recognition for their efforts, including Kobe Johnson making last year’s Big Ten All-Defensive Team and Adem Bona winning Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year honors two seasons ago.
Pauley Pavilion is celebrating its sixtieth season as home to UCLA basketball following major renovations completed fourteen years ago. Under head coach Mick Cronin, now in his seventh year with the program, UCLA maintains an impressive home record with only one loss so far this season.
The team’s roster features several players from Southern California and boasts an assist-turnover ratio that ranks among national leaders. Since joining conference play for this campaign, UCLA continues its tradition of strong performances both offensively and defensively under Coach Cronin’s leadership.
Looking ahead after facing Illinois, UCLA will host USC before concluding its regular-season schedule with additional conference matchups including Nebraska and Minnesota. Two of their remaining opponents are ranked within AP’s top ten teams nationally.
