Junior pitcher Cody Delvecchio from UCLA’s baseball team was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 12th round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft. This marks another milestone for UCLA under head coach John Savage, who has seen 130 student-athletes drafted during his tenure, with 52 picked within the top-10 rounds.
Delvecchio’s career at UCLA was marked by significant achievements. Over three seasons, he made 60 appearances and became known as one of Savage’s reliable pitchers. As a freshman in 2023, he led the Pac-12 in appearances and maintained a low ERA of 0.74 through April. His performance included a series of scoreless outings and strong strikeout numbers.
In 2024, Delvecchio was a key player in UCLA’s bullpen until an injury affected his season. Before this setback, he led the team with a 2.42 ERA and limited opponents to a .196 batting average. Notable performances included four strikeouts in two innings against TCU.
Transitioning to a starting role in 2025, Delvecchio made eight starts and recorded 39 strikeouts over 37 innings. His season began with an impressive game against Cal Poly and included crucial wins against Nebraska and Purdue. He concluded his college career on a national platform at the Men’s College World Series finale.
