The UCLA men’s tennis team, ranked No. 24, will conclude its regular-season home schedule with matches against No. 14 Illinois on Saturday, April 11, and No. 66 Northwestern on Sunday, April 12 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
These matches are significant as the Bruins (13-5 overall, 7-2 in Big Ten play) seek to secure third place in the Big Ten Conference standings when they face Illinois (19-5, 8-2). The weekend also marks Senior Day for three players: Gianluca Ballotta, Will Steinberg, and Aadarsh Tripathi.
Ballotta has recorded a total of 55 wins during his career at UCLA and received several academic honors. Steinberg joined the team earlier this season after a standout high school career. Tripathi was named an ITA All-America for doubles in 2025 and has twice participated in the NCAA doubles tournament with a total of 95 combined singles and doubles victories.
In recent competition, UCLA split its last two home matches—falling to top-ranked Ohio State before defeating Penn State. Several Bruins played at their highest singles positions so far this season during these contests. Notably, junior Spencer Johnson recently reached his milestone of 100 total collegiate wins across singles and doubles play.
Looking back at last season’s achievements, UCLA won its first-ever Big Ten Tournament championship by defeating Ohio State on their home court—a streak-breaking result that propelled them into the NCAA Championship quarterfinals for the first time as well. The team returns four of its top six singles winners from last year while welcoming new contributors such as Cassius Chinlund and Andy Nguyen.
As Head Coach Billy Martin enters his thirty-third year leading the program—with a record of over six hundred wins—the Bruins aim to build upon their recent successes as they close out their home campaign.
