UCLA was selected for an at-large berth into the 2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship and will play in the San Diego regional, according to an April 27 announcement by the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Subcommittee. The Bruins are set to face Arizona State on Friday.
The significance of this selection is that it gives UCLA another opportunity to compete for a national title. The regional also includes UC Santa Barbara and host school San Diego, with San Diego earning an automatic berth as West Coast Conference champions.
The opening match between UCLA (17-7) and Arizona State (17-10) will take place at Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. Following that, San Diego (20-5) will play UC Santa Barbara (18-7) at 1 p.m., with the winners meeting Saturday at noon for a spot in the super-regional round scheduled for May 8 or 9.
Historically, UCLA has a strong record against its regional opponents. The Bruins have won 68 of their previous 73 matches against Arizona State but lost their most recent encounter in Los Angeles in 2024. Against San Diego, UCLA leads the series with a record of 35-2 and secured a narrow win earlier this season. In matches versus UC Santa Barbara, UCLA holds a commanding lead of 34-1 all-time.
Matches during the championship follow regulation dual match format: three doubles matches worth one point followed by six singles matches each worth one point, using no-ad scoring and tiebreakers played at six-games-all. Matches end once four points are reached by one team.
Looking ahead, teams advancing from regionals will compete in single-elimination super-regionals before moving on to Athens, Georgia for the national championship rounds later in May.
