UCLA men’s tennis defeats Wisconsin 6-1 in Big Ten match

The UCLA men’s tennis team defeated Wisconsin 6-1 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on March 20, maintaining its undefeated record in Big Ten play. The Bruins improved to 4-0 in conference matches and 10-3 overall, while the Badgers dropped to 2-3 in the conference and 11-4 overall.

The match began with doubles play, where Wisconsin secured the first point after a close tiebreak win at Court 1 and a victory at Court 3. UCLA’s only doubles win came at Court 2, where Gianluca Ballotta returned from an injury timeout to help partner Emon van Loben Sels secure a 6-3 win.

In singles competition, UCLA won all six matches. Emon van Loben Sels and Spencer Johnson each posted straight-set victories to give UCLA a quick lead. Andy Nguyen followed with another win, defeating Edouard Aubert. Freshman Cassius Chinlund clinched the overall match for UCLA by beating Matthew Fullerton at Court 6.

Aadarsh Tripathi and Rudy Quan completed the sweep for the Bruins. Quan overcame two match points in a third-set tiebreaker to defeat Patrik Meszaros.

UCLA will next face Nebraska on Sunday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
