The UCLA men’s tennis team defeated Nebraska 6-0 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on March 22, keeping its record perfect in Big Ten conference matches. The Bruins, ranked No. 24 nationally, improved to 5-0 in conference play and 11-3 overall, while Nebraska dropped to a 1-5 conference record and is now 9-8 overall.
This win follows UCLA’s earlier victory over Wisconsin, where the Bruins won 6-1. The doubles competition against Nebraska was closely contested. UCLA secured an early win at Court 1 before Nebraska responded with a victory at Court 2. The deciding match on Court 3 saw Rudy Quan and Bengt Reinhard of UCLA edge out their opponents in a tiebreaker, giving the Bruins the doubles point.
In singles play, Quan, who is ranked No. 119 nationally, quickly defeated Nikolay Sysoev (ranked No. 81) with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Cassius Chinlund followed with a dominant performance on Court 5, winning his match by dropping only one game. Aadarsh Tripathi clinched the overall victory for UCLA shortly after with a straight-set win on Court 4.
Additional points came from Andy Nguyen and Emon van Loben Sels, both winning their singles matches in straight sets. Reinhard was leading his match when it was suspended.
Looking ahead, UCLA will travel for matches against Michigan and Michigan State next week before returning home to face top-ranked Ohio State on April 3.
