The UCLA men’s soccer team was defeated 3-0 by No. 16 Michigan on Friday night at the U-M Soccer Stadium in Ann Arbor. The Bruins, now 3-6-3 overall and 3-3-1 in Big Ten play, were unable to find the net despite efforts from Konstantinos Georgallides, who led the team with two shots.
Michigan’s Michael Ramirez scored twice for the Wolverines, who improved to 8-2-3 overall and 4-2-1 in conference matches. The first goal came in the 22nd minute when Ramirez’s shot from outside the box deflected off Schinieder Mimy and went in. UCLA nearly equalized two minutes later, but Ander Marticorena’s header was saved by Michigan goalkeeper Isaiah Goldson.
Ramirez extended Michigan’s lead late in the first half, finishing a cross from Dylan Davis. In the second half, UCLA’s Sergi Solans Ormo had a breakaway opportunity but was denied by Goldson. Michigan secured the win in the 72nd minute with a penalty kick converted by Quinn Rodgers.
UCLA goalkeeper Kevin Box made two saves during the match. The Bruins were unable to score in the final 18 minutes, and Michigan maintained their lead to secure the victory.
UCLA will play its next match on Monday, October 20, against Michigan State. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
