UCLA men’s soccer began its 2025 season with a 2-0 loss to UC Irvine on Thursday at Anteater Stadium. The Bruins were outshot by the Anteaters, who recorded 12 attempts compared to UCLA’s six. Wyatt Nelson made two saves in goal for the Bruins, while Sergi Solans Ormo led the team with two shots.

The match featured seven newcomers in the UCLA lineup, including three freshmen—Francis Bonsu, Ian Charles, and Kian Concepcion—making their collegiate debuts. Transfers Drew Brown, Oliver Roche, Sean Sent, and Sergi Solans Ormo also appeared for the first time with UCLA.

During the first half, UCLA held more possession but was unable to score. Bonsu and Concepcion worked together on the flank without producing a goal. Solans Ormo had the team’s best opportunity in the 34th minute, narrowly missing wide of the post. The teams went into halftime tied 0-0.

UC Irvine scored both goals after halftime. Isaac Powell put UC Irvine ahead in the 64th minute, and Nolan DiCenzo added another in the 82nd minute.

The Bruins will next play California at Wallis Annenberg Stadium on Sunday evening at 7:00 pm PT. The game will be broadcast on B1G+.
