The UCLA men’s soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Cal State Fullerton on Thursday night at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. Cal State Fullerton took the lead in the 67th minute when Jose de la Torre scored with a bicycle kick from the penalty spot after receiving a cross from Jorge Quintero.
UCLA responded quickly, tying the game just 50 seconds later. Philip Naef advanced the ball through midfield and passed it to Oliver Roche, who beat his defender and scored from a tight angle for his first goal of the season.
Both teams had chances earlier in the match. In the fifth minute, Naef had an opportunity to score but was denied by Fullerton’s goalkeeper. Later, Roche missed a chance to put UCLA ahead in the 38th minute when his shot went over the bar after being set up by Naef.
Freshman Ryan Tiltack made his second start as UCLA’s goalkeeper, making three saves during the game.
The Bruins’ record now stands at 0-2-1. They will travel to play No. 18 Kentucky on Monday, September 1, with kickoff scheduled for 10 am PT and streaming available on ESPN+.
