For the eighth consecutive year, both the UCLA men’s and women’s soccer teams have received College Team Academic Awards from United Soccer Coaches. This recognition is given to programs whose student-athletes achieve a team grade point average of 3.00 or higher over the academic year.
UCLA is among 161 schools across all NCAA divisions to have both their men’s and women’s teams honored for the 2024-25 season.
The men’s soccer team posted a 3.36 GPA during the past school year, marking its eighth straight year receiving this award. Head coach Ryan Jorden has led the program throughout this period. Fourteen members of the men’s team were also named to the Academic All-Big Ten team.
The women’s soccer team earned its fourteenth consecutive academic award after achieving a collective 3.26 GPA in 2024-25. It is also the sixth consecutive year that the women’s squad has maintained a GPA of at least 3.25. Fifteen players were selected for the Academic All-Big Ten team last fall, while Lilly Reale and Sofia Cook received Scholar All-America honors.
According to United Soccer Coaches, these awards are intended “to annually celebrate the academic achievements of teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year.” The criteria require each recognized team to maintain at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.
Both teams are scheduled to start their preseason with home exhibition matches next week at Wallis Annenberg Stadium, which will be open to the public free of charge. The men’s team will play CSU Bakersfield on Friday, Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m., and the women’s team will face LMU on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 6:00 p.m.
The official start of the season for UCLA women’s soccer is set for Thursday, Aug. 14 with an away game against Georgia, while the men’s opener will take place on Thursday, Aug. 21 at UC Irvine.
