UCLA men’s golf tied for ninth after first round at Southern Highlands Collegiate

The UCLA men’s golf team is currently tied for ninth place out of 15 teams after the first round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate at Southern Highlands Golf Club in Las Vegas. The Bruins finished Sunday with a score of 4-over 292, joining UNLV and Georgia in a three-way tie. Ten teams are closely grouped in the middle of the standings, separated by just six strokes.

Virginia leads after the opening round with an 11-under 277, followed by Auburn in second at 6-under 282. Texas holds eighth place at 2-over 290, while Pepperdine and Texas A&M are tied for sixth at even par.

Freshman Tyler Loree led UCLA’s golfers on Sunday, shooting a 1-under 71 to tie for 20th place individually after the first day. Loree recorded one eagle on the par-4 15th hole, three birdies, two bogeys, and one double bogey during his round.

Senior Kyle An and freshman Josh Kim both finished with scores of 1-over 73, tying them for 32nd place. Sophomores Logan Kim and Baylor Larrabee each shot a 3-over 75 to tie for 53rd.

Kyle An also achieved an eagle on the par-3 ninth hole and added two birdies but had five bogeys throughout his round.

The tournament continues Monday with second-round play beginning around 9:20 a.m. Pacific Time. Live scoring updates are available via Scoreboard powered by Clippd (link here). The event will conclude Tuesday in Las Vegas.
