The UCLA men’s golf team finished in a tie for 10th place out of 13 teams after the first round of the NCAA Corvallis Regional on May 18 at Trysting Tree Golf Club.
This result puts UCLA three strokes behind the teams currently tied for fifth place, Charlotte and San Diego. Only the top five teams after three rounds will advance to the NCAA Championship field in Carlsbad, California. The competition is close, with eight teams from fourth through eleventh place separated by just seven strokes.
Purdue led the opening round with a score of 12-under-par (272), while Oklahoma and Arkansas were tied for second at nine-under (275). UCLA shot one-under-par (283), tying with Texas Tech.
Among individual performances, freshman Josh Kim posted a two-under-par (69) in his first round. Senior Kyle An and sophomore Baylor Larrabee each carded one-under-par (70). Sophomore Tyler Loree finished three-over (74), and junior Alex Papayoanou ended at six-over (77). Kim recorded four birdies and two bogeys, while Larrabee notched six birdies but also had five bogeys during his round. An made four birdies and three bogeys.
UCLA is scheduled to continue play on Tuesday morning at 8:55 a.m. Pacific Time from the tenth hole. The tournament will conclude after Wednesday’s third round, when the top five teams will move on to compete in Carlsbad from May 29 through June 3.
