UCLA men’s golf team stands sixth after two rounds at Thunderbird Collegiate

The UCLA men’s golf team finished in sixth place after the first two rounds of The Thunderbird Collegiate on April 10 at Papago Golf Club in Phoenix.

The tournament features nine programs, with UCLA sitting one stroke behind fifth-place Colorado and twelve strokes away from third-place teams San Diego and Arizona State. The competition continues to be close as teams vie for higher placements.

Freshman Tyler Loree led the Bruins with a strong individual showing, finishing at four-under-par 138 through two rounds. Loree posted consistent scores of two-under 69 in each round and enters Saturday’s final round tied for twelfth place, five strokes behind leader Johnnie Clark of New Mexico.

Senior Kyle An and sophomore Baylor Larrabee are both tied for twenty-second place, each carding one-under-par 141 over the first thirty-six holes. Both golfers shot a two-under 69 in the opening round followed by a one-over 72 in the second. Junior Alex Papayoanou completed play at one-over-par 143, while freshman Josh Kim ended Friday’s action at two-over-par 144. Senior Matthew Yamin competed as an individual and recorded a three-over-par score of 145.

The Bruins will return to action for the third and final round on Saturday, April 11, starting at seven o’clock in the morning.
