The UCLA men’s golf team finished the first round in seventh place at The Goodwin tournament on March 26, hosted by Stanford University at the Stanford Golf Club.
The event marks a return for UCLA, which won the same 54-hole, stroke play tournament last year. After Thursday’s opening round, the Bruins posted a score of 4-under-par 276. This result places them five strokes behind third-place New Mexico and six behind second-place Long Beach State. Host Stanford led the field of 30 teams with an opening day score of 11-under-par 269.
Among individual performances, junior Alex Papayoanou led UCLA with a score of two-under-par 68, tying him for eighteenth place. Senior Kyle An and freshman Josh Kim each carded one-under-par rounds of 69 to tie for twenty-seventh. Freshman Tyler Loree shot even par (70), while sophomore Baylor Larrabee recorded a four-over-par round of 74.
Papayoanou completed his round with five birdies and three bogeys. Kim had six birdies but also faced three bogeys and one double bogey during his round.
UCLA will continue its participation in The Goodwin with the second round scheduled for Friday, March 27, starting around 8:05 a.m. Pacific Time. The three-day tournament will conclude on Saturday, March 28.
