The UCLA men’s golf team finished the first day of the Southwestern Invitational in last place among 13 teams, with a score of 22-over 302. The tournament is being held at North Ranch Country Club in Ventura County. All participating teams are ranked within the top 100 nationally.
UCLA trails Loyola Marymount by seven strokes and Colorado State by eight strokes. Sophomore Baylor Larrabee led the Bruins with a score of 2-under 68, tying him for fifth place individually after the opening round. Larrabee was one of only eight golfers to finish under par on Monday. UNLV’s Trevor Lewis leads all individuals with a score of 5-under 65.
Senior Kyle An shot a 4-over 74, placing him in a tie for 42nd. Other UCLA team competitors included sophomore Logan Kim and freshman Tyler Loree, both finishing at 10-over 80, and junior Alex Papayoanou at 13-over 83.
Freshman Josh Kim, competing as an individual for UCLA, recorded a score of 1-under 69 and is tied for ninth on the individual leaderboard.
Larrabee’s round featured four birdies and two bogeys. He completed his first nine holes at one over par before going three under on the back nine without recording any bogeys over his final eleven holes.
The tournament will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday. UCLA’s team players are scheduled to start their second round Tuesday morning from the tenth hole, while Josh Kim will begin from the first hole shortly afterward.
