Redshirt junior linebacker Carson Schwesinger of the UCLA football team has been named a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Second Team Academic All-American, as announced by the organization on Tuesday morning.
The 2024 Academic All-America Football teams honor top student-athletes nationwide for their combined performances in sports and academics. To qualify, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 and compete in 90% of their institution’s games or start in at least 66% of them. Schwesinger, majoring in bioengineering, maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.72.
Schwesinger had an impressive season with 136 total tackles, 4 sacks, 8.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and two interceptions. These achievements led to his first-team All-America recognition by the Associated Press and second-team honors from both the American Football Coaches Association and the Walter Camp Football Foundation. He was also a finalist for the Butkus Award and a semifinalist for the Burlsworth Trophy. Academically, he was named to the Big Ten Fall Academic Honor Roll.
An All-Big Ten First Team selection, Schwesinger led the conference in several defensive statistics during the regular season, including total tackles (136), total tackles per game (11.3), solo tackles (90), solo tackles per game (7.5), and double-digit-tackle performances (nine). His 90 solo tackles were unmatched by any Big Ten defenseman during the regular season over at least the last 22 years.
On December 19, 2024, Schwesinger declared for the 2025 NFL Draft via Instagram.
