UCLA Athletics has announced the appointment of Nick Vogel as the new assistant coach for the UCLA women’s volleyball team. Vogel, a former standout player and alumnus, returns to the program after serving three seasons as head assistant coach for the UCLA men’s volleyball team under John Hawks.
“We are thrilled to welcome Nick Vogel to UCLA women’s volleyball,” stated head coach Alfee Reft. “Nick brings a championship pedigree, a brilliant volleyball mind, and a deep passion for developing the athletes he works with.”
During his tenure with the men’s team, Vogel contributed to two NCAA National Collegiate Championships in 2023 and 2024 and led them to another NCAA finals appearance in 2025. Under his guidance, UCLA achieved an impressive record of 79-14 overall and excelled in MPSF conference play.
Vogel expressed his gratitude for returning to UCLA: “Returning to the program that gave me my first opportunity in coaching is deeply meaningful,” he said. He acknowledged head coach Alfee Reft’s influence and thanked Kenny Donaldson for support and trust.
Before joining UCLA’s coaching staff, Vogel was an assistant coach at DePaul University, where he helped lead the team to its first Big East championship match. His previous experience includes roles at UC San Diego, San Diego, and as a volunteer assistant at UCLA.
As a player from 2009–12 under coach Al Scates, Vogel participated in international competitions with Team USA before playing professionally overseas.
