Linebacker Kain Medrano, defensive lineman Jay Toia, and tight end Moliki Matavao from UCLA were selected on the final day of the 2025 NFL Draft. These selections follow Friday’s picks of linebacker Carson Schwesinger and edge rusher Oluwafemi Oladejo in the second round, bringing UCLA’s total to five players drafted this year. This is the highest number since 2022 and ties for the second-most in nine years for the program.
Medrano was chosen first among his teammates on Saturday, going in the sixth round as pick No. 205 to the Washington Commanders. He is the first UCLA player drafted by Washington since Fabian Moreau in 2017. Toia was picked at No. 217 overall by Dallas at the start of the seventh round, while Matavao went No. 248 overall to New Orleans, marking him as the first Bruin drafted by the Saints since Rodney Leisle in 2004.
Medrano played six seasons at UCLA from 2019-24, becoming a starter in 2023 and team captain in 2024. The Pueblo, Colorado native recorded 196 tackles with significant contributions including three interceptions and five forced fumbles. He earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention status in 2023 and Third Team All-Big Ten honors last season.
Toia participated in 50 games over four years at UCLA, contributing significantly to top-ranked rush defenses during his tenure. He amassed a total of 91 tackles and helped anchor defenses that ranked second nationally in rush defense in 2023 and sixth in 2024.
Matavao started 22 games across four seasons split between UCLA (2023-24) and Oregon (2021-22). In his final season, he led UCLA with receptions totaling 41 catches for 506 yards. His standout performance included an eight-catch game against Fresno State.
