UCLA football head coach Bob Chesney announced on Mar. 18 the addition of eight new coaching staff members, including three assistant position coaches, three defensive analysts, and two offensive analysts.
The announcement is significant as it marks a major step in assembling Chesney’s first-year staff, which he said was done with careful consideration. “We were very intentional in assembling this first-year staff,” Chesney said. “Our assistant coaches and analysts will play a critical role in our success on the field while helping build a culture rooted in competition and toughness. This group brings a strong combination of veteran football knowledge and hungry, emerging talent. Together, they will elevate every aspect of our program.”
On offense, Jon Boyer joins as assistant quarterbacks coach after serving at Michigan State last season and previously at Oregon State. Mike Cordova has been named assistant tight ends coach following five seasons under Chesney at James Madison and Holy Cross. Chris Monfiletto rounds out the assistant coaches as the Bruins’ assistant special teams coordinator/specialist coach, bringing over 20 years of experience across various levels.
Scott Brisson comes to UCLA as senior offensive analyst after working with Chesney at James Madison last year and having prior experience at Lehigh University. Matt Biondi returns for his second consecutive season as an offensive analyst focusing on quarterbacks.
Defensively, all three new analysts have ties to James Madison University: Jacob Dobbs (linebackers), Ukoh Essang (defensive line), and Justice Seales (safeties). Dobbs recently completed a notable playing career under Chesney before starting his coaching journey last year at James Madison.
The new hires bring a mix of veteran expertise and recent playing or coaching experience from programs such as Michigan State, Oregon State, Buffalo, Rice, Lehigh, Holy Cross, Marist, Sacred Heart, Pittsburg State, and James Madison. The appointments are expected to strengthen both the strategic approach on the field and player development off it.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, these additions reflect UCLA’s commitment to building a competitive program under Chesney’s leadership.
