Roch Cholowsky led the UCLA baseball team to a 10-2 victory over TCU in the opening game of their series at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Friday night. Cholowsky, who is the Bruins’ shortstop, hit a grand slam in the second inning and added a solo home run in the fifth, finishing with five runs batted in. This performance marked his seventh multi-homer game while playing for UCLA.

Starting pitcher Logan Reddemann earned his second win of the season by striking out 10 batters and allowing just one run over five innings. He gave up five hits and walked one batter during his outing.

First baseman Mulivai Levu had four hits for the second consecutive game, raising his season batting average to .591. Levu also drove in two runs and scored once. Roman Martin reached base all five times he came to bat, collecting two hits and three walks.

Other contributors included Cashel Dugger and Dean West, who each recorded multiple hits. Aiden Aguayo, Will Gasparino, and Jarrod Hocking each added a hit as well.

UCLA broke open the game with a five-run second inning that saw TCU’s starting pitcher Mason Brassfield leave early. The rally began with doubles from Aguayo and Gasparino before Cholowsky hit his grand slam.

Levu added two more runs for UCLA in the third inning with a single to center field. TCU responded with a solo home run by Chase Brunson in the fourth inning, but UCLA extended its lead again when Cholowsky hit another home run in the fifth.

After Reddemann left the game, Ian May pitched 1.2 scoreless innings for UCLA. Chris Grothues retired all four batters he faced before CJ Bott finished off the final three outs to secure the win.

The Bruins will play TCU again at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Saturday at 2 p.m., with coverage available on B1G+.
