The UCLA softball program has announced the addition of two transfer students, Mia Phillips and Sydney Somerndike, who will join the team for the 2026 season. The announcement was made by Kelly Inouye-Perez, The Shelly Carlin UCLA Head Softball Coach.
Phillips is a right-handed hitting infielder who previously played at the University of California, Berkeley. She was recognized on the All-ACC Freshman Team in 2025. During her debut season, she achieved a .315 batting average with five triples, 10 doubles, four home runs, and 33 RBIs.
Somerndike is a right-handed pitcher from the University of Arizona. She was named the 2021 Gatorade California Player of the Year during her junior year at Villa Park High School. In her college career, she compiled a record of 4-2 with a 4.26 ERA over three years at Arizona.
The two athletes will be joining fellow transfers Soo-Jin Berry and Brynne Nally as part of UCLA’s incoming class.
