UCLA announced on April 2 that its No. 2 ranked women’s beach volleyball team will compete against three Top 10 opponents at the Best in the West Tournament, scheduled for April 3-4 at Main Beach in Laguna Beach, California. The Bruins will open play against No. 6 Cal Poly and No. 1 Stanford on Friday, followed by matches against No. 4 USC and No. 10 Long Beach State on Saturday.

The tournament is significant as it brings together some of the strongest collegiate beach volleyball programs in the country, offering UCLA a chance to test itself ahead of postseason play.

UCLA enters the event with an overall record of 18-3 after going 3-1 at the Texas Invitational last weekend. Kaley Mathews and Ensley Alden stood out by winning all four of their matches on Court 2 during that tournament, improving their season record to 14-1 overall and remaining undefeated on Court 2.

Senior Maggie Boyd continues to climb UCLA’s all-time win list with her career total now tied for sixth place at the university with Megan McNamara at 111 victories. Boyd has achieved half of those wins alongside partner Sally Perez; together they rank fourth in school history for career wins as a pair.

Head coach Jenny Johnson Jordan leads UCLA into her third season as head coach and thirteenth year with the program overall. Johnson Jordan was named MPSF Coach of the Year in 2025 and has guided UCLA to strong finishes including an NCAA semifinal appearance last year.

Looking ahead, UCLA will participate in another major competition—the Center of Effort Challenge—in San Luis Obispo from April 10-11.
