The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) announced on Mar. 25 that its top-ranked women’s beach volleyball team will compete in the Texas Invitational on March 27 and 28, facing four nationally ranked opponents. The Bruins, currently holding a record of 15-2, will play against No. 12 Louisiana State University (LSU), No. 6 Texas, No. 17 North Florida, and No. 16 Florida Atlantic during the tournament in Austin, Texas.
This event is significant as UCLA continues its strong season after a week off for finals and aims to maintain its standing as the number one team in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Collegiate Beach Poll for a third consecutive week. The matches offer an opportunity for UCLA to extend several ongoing win streaks and further solidify individual player records.
The Bruins have demonstrated consistent performance recently by going undefeated over three consecutive weeks and defeating three ranked teams at the East Meets West Invitational earlier this month. Key players include Sally Perez and Maggie Boyd, who extended their winning streak to nine matches with a near-perfect season record so far; Harper Cooper remains unbeaten at 16-0; and seven different players are on double-digit win streaks.
Head coach Jenny Johnson Jordan enters her third year leading UCLA after previously serving as an assistant coach during two NCAA championship seasons. Assistant coaches Kelly Reeves—UCLA’s first-ever beach volleyball All-American—and Theo Brunner also bring national championship experience to the staff.
Looking ahead, UCLA will return home for one more match this season before competing in another major tournament featuring multiple Top Ten teams.
