UCLA beach volleyball sweeps Long Beach State and Pepperdine; Boyd reaches milestone

The UCLA beach volleyball team secured two wins on the second day of the Battle for LA at Mapes Beach, finishing the weekend with a 4-0 record. The Bruins, ranked No. 2 nationally, defeated No. 11 Long Beach State and Pepperdine, both by a score of 5-0.

Senior Maggie Boyd reached a milestone during the match against Pepperdine, becoming the 11th player in program history to achieve 100 career victories. Her straight-set win alongside Sally Perez contributed to the team’s sweep.

In their first match of the day, UCLA recorded an efficient victory over Long Beach State. Cassie Dodd and Alexa Fernandez won in straight sets on court two, while Ava Williamson and Jesse Dueck claimed a three-set win on court four. Adelina Okazaki and Mallory LaBreche clinched the overall match for UCLA with their win on court five. Additional victories came from Perez and Boyd on court one and Harper Cooper with Ensley Alden on court three.

Pepperdine entered its contest against UCLA after losing to Long Beach State earlier in the day. In this matchup, Cooper and Dueck secured a quick win on court four, completing their match in just 29 minutes. Dodd and Fernandez won a close three-setter on court two. Williamson and Alden added another straight-set victory on court three, followed by LaBreche and Taylor Ford winning on court five. Perez and Boyd finished off the sweep for UCLA.

The Bruins will next host the MPSF Midseason Rumble, beginning with a match against No. 17 Grand Canyon scheduled for Friday, March 6 at 11:00 a.m.

After these results, UCLA’s season record stands at 7-2.
