The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) women’s beach volleyball team won two matches on Mar. 13 at the East Meets West Invitational in Manhattan Beach, defeating both No. 8 Arizona State and No. 12 Louisiana State University (LSU) without dropping a set.

These victories are significant as they maintain UCLA’s top ranking and demonstrate the team’s strong performance against other nationally ranked programs.

In the first match of the day, UCLA handed Arizona State its first loss of the season with a 5-0 sweep. Ava Williamson and Jesse Dueck secured the opening win on court 4, followed by Kaley Mathews and Ensley Alden on court 2. Kenzie Brower and Mallory LaBreche clinched the match for UCLA on court 5, while Sally Perez and Maggie Boyd added another point on court 1. Harper Cooper and Alexa Fernandez completed the sweep on court 3.

Later in the day, UCLA faced LSU, who had just lost to California in a reverse sweep. The Bruins again won all five matches without losing a set. Williamson and Dueck started strong on court 4, with Mathews and Alden following suit on court 2. Brower and LaBreche clinched their second consecutive match for UCLA on court 5. Cooper and Fernandez earned another win on court 3, while Perez and Boyd closed out the day with a victory on court 1.

According to official records provided by UCLA Athletics, these results bring UCLA’s record to 13-2 for the season after defeating Arizona State (previously undefeated) and LSU (now holding a record of 10-6).

Looking ahead, UCLA will continue competing in Day Two of the East Meets West Invitational on Saturday with scheduled matches against No. 5 Texas at 10am Pacific Time and Florida International University at 2pm Pacific Time.
