UCLA’s women’s beach volleyball team will host its home opener, the Battle for LA tournament, at Mapes Beach on February 27 and 28. The Bruins, currently ranked No. 2 with a 3-2 record, will face Boise State (3-1), No. 3 Cal Poly (4-0), No. 11 Long Beach State (2-0), and Pepperdine (1-3). Admission to the event is free.

The tournament schedule begins Friday with UCLA playing Boise State at 10 a.m., followed by Boise State versus Cal Poly at noon, and UCLA against Cal Poly at 2 p.m. On Saturday, UCLA meets Long Beach State at 10 a.m., Long Beach State faces Pepperdine at noon, and UCLA concludes the weekend against Pepperdine at 2 p.m. Live scores for all matches will be available through Statbroadcast, with direct links on the Bruins’ official website.

In their last outing at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic in Honolulu from February 20 to 22, UCLA posted a 3-2 record. They earned wins over Texas, LMU, and USC but lost close matches to Hawai’i and Stanford. Harper Cooper and Ava Williamson went undefeated as a pair during the tournament.

Senior Maggie Boyd is approaching a milestone of 100 career victories; she currently has 96 wins and could become the eleventh Bruin to reach this mark.

Returning this season are seven of ten starters from last year’s squad that advanced to the NCAA semifinals with an overall record of 32-7. The top pair of Maggie Boyd and Sally Perez returns after earning MPSF Pair of the Year honors in 2025 with a combined record of 31-4 last season. Both athletes are included on the AVCA Beach Player of the Year Watch List.

New additions include junior transfer Ava Williamson from Arizona State—where she was named second-team All-American in 2024—and freshmen Olivia Le Blanc, Mallory LaBreche, and Alina Ryan.

Head coach Jenny Johnson Jordan enters her third year leading UCLA after previously serving as an assistant coach during two NCAA championship seasons in 2018 and 2019. Kelly Reeves continues as assistant coach for her third season; Theo Brunner joins as another assistant this year.

After losses to Hawai’i and Stanford in Honolulu, UCLA moved down one spot to No. 2 in national rankings. The Bruins began this season ranked No.1 in the AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball Preseason Poll following their third-place finish last year.

Looking ahead, UCLA will host the MPSF Midseason Rumble on March 6–7 at Mapes Beach with scheduled matches against Grand Canyon, Washington, Oregon, and Stanford.
