UCLA beach volleyball defeats Boise State and Cal Poly at Battle for LA

No. 2 UCLA’s beach volleyball team secured two victories on the first day of the Battle for LA tournament at Mapes Beach in Los Angeles. The Bruins opened with a 4-1 win against Boise State, followed by another 4-1 result over No. 3 Cal Poly.

In their match against Boise State, Ava Williamson and Jesse Dueck played together for the first time and won their court in straight sets. Boise State tied the score after winning on court two, but UCLA responded by sweeping the remaining courts. Mallory LaBreche and Adelina Okazaki won on court five, while Harper Cooper and Ensley Alden clinched the team victory on court three. Sally Perez and Maggie Boyd closed out the match with a win on court one.

After Cal Poly defeated Boise State earlier in the day, they faced UCLA in the final match. Cal Poly took an early lead with a win on court two, but Williamson and Dueck leveled the score after a three-set victory. LaBreche and Okazaki then secured another point for UCLA, followed by Perez and Boyd’s three-set win that included four aces from Boyd in the final set. Cooper and Alden finished with a three-set victory to give UCLA a 4-1 win over Cal Poly.

The Bruins will continue play at Mapes Beach with matches scheduled against No. 11 Long Beach State at 10 a.m. PT and Pepperdine at 2 p.m. PT tomorrow. Live scores are available throughout the tournament via Statbroadcast, with direct links provided on UCLABruins.com.
