The UCLA baseball team secured a series win against TCU with a 5-1 victory at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Saturday. The Bruins, ranked No. 1, improved their season record to 5-1 with this result.
Michael Barnett earned his second win of the year for UCLA by allowing only one run and three hits across five innings, while striking out four batters. Wylan Moss took over in relief and closed the game with four scoreless innings. Moss achieved a career-high ten strikeouts, including nine consecutive to end the contest, eight of which were swinging.
On offense, Will Gasparino contributed significantly by going 2-for-4 at the plate, hitting his fourth home run of the season and driving in three runs. Aiden Aguayo added three hits and scored twice. Dean West reached base four times through two hits, a walk, and being hit by a pitch. Roch Cholowsky provided an RBI single in the seventh inning.
TCU (now 2-4) opened scoring with Sawyer Strosnider’s solo home run in the first inning. UCLA responded quickly when Dean West singled and later scored on Jonah Mulivai Levu’s groundout. Gasparino’s RBI single in the second gave UCLA the lead, which he extended further with a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
Cholowsky’s single in the seventh increased UCLA’s advantage to four runs. Moss faced just one batter above the minimum during his outing as he preserved the Bruins’ lead.
The series will conclude Sunday at Jackie Robinson Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. PT on B1G+.
