The UCLA baseball team, ranked No. 1, defeated Michigan 7-2 at Jackie Robinson Stadium on March 15, completing its second consecutive Big Ten sweep.
This victory brings the Bruins’ record to 17-2 overall and 6-0 in conference play, marking their best start in league competition since 1977. The team has now won 11 straight games, matching its longest winning streak since the 2020 season.
Roch Cholowsky led the offense with three hits, including his tenth home run of the year and three runs batted in. Mulivai Levu, Roman Martin, and Dominic Cadiz each contributed two hits; Cadiz also drove in two runs. Trey Gudoy added a pinch-hit single.
On the pitching side, Landon Stump earned his first win of the season by throwing five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and allowing just one hit. Chris Grothues took over in the sixth inning, followed by Ian May and Zach Strickland who maintained UCLA’s strong pitching performance through the seventh inning. Michigan ended a long scoreless stretch with two runs in the eighth inning before Easton Hawk closed out the game with two strikeouts in a clean ninth inning.
UCLA scored early and steadily increased its lead throughout the game. Key moments included Martin’s sacrifice fly in the first inning, Cadiz’s RBI plays in both the third and fifth innings, Cholowsky’s solo home run later in the third, and a three-run seventh inning that put the game out of reach for Michigan.
The Bruins will return to Jackie Robinson Stadium on Tuesday, March 17 to face Pepperdine at 6 p.m., with live coverage available on B1G+.
