The UCLA baseball team secured a 6–4 victory over Minnesota on April 18 at Jackie Robinson Stadium, clinching the weekend series and extending its unbeaten run in conference play.
This win is significant as it maintains UCLA’s No. 1 ranking and their perfect record in the Big Ten, standing at 20-0. The Bruins’ consistent performance has kept them atop the standings and demonstrated their depth both offensively and defensively.
Eight of nine starters contributed hits for UCLA, with Mulivai Levu and Roman Martin each collecting two hits and two RBIs to lead the offense. Dean West reached base four times, while Roch Cholowsky matched that by getting on base via a hit, two hit-by-pitches, and a walk. Payton Brennan added his seventh home run of the season during a key four-run rally in the sixth inning.
On the pitching side, Michael Barnett delivered over four innings of one-run ball before turning things over to relievers Jake Swenson and Chris Grothues for scoreless outings. Wylan Moss picked up his fourth win of the year out of the bullpen. Easton Hawk closed out with a four-out save—his eighth this season—to secure back-to-back saves across consecutive days.
Minnesota took an early lead but was matched by UCLA in the fifth inning before briefly regaining an advantage on Ty Allen’s home run in the sixth. The Bruins responded immediately with a decisive four-run surge featuring key contributions from Brennan, Levu, Gudoy, Cholowsky, and Martin.
