The UCLA baseball team defeated Michigan 2-0 on March 14 at Jackie Robinson Stadium, clinching the weekend series and extending its winning streak to ten games.
This victory marks the Bruins’ longest winning streak since 2020 and their first shutout since last year’s Los Angeles Super Regional against UTSA. The team now holds a record of 16-2 overall and remains undefeated in Big Ten play at 5-0.
Michael Barnett led the pitching staff with five scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and striking out five batters. Barnett improved his collegiate career record to 22-4 after throwing just 65 pitches. Wylan Moss followed in relief, striking out six over 3.2 shutout innings before Easton Hawk entered in the ninth inning to secure his first save of the season and ninth of his career.
Offensively, Will Gasparino provided all the scoring with a two-out, two-run double in the first inning. Dean West, Roch Cholowsky, and Trey Gudoy also contributed hits for UCLA.
Moss faced challenges in the seventh inning when Michigan loaded the bases due to a hit, an error, and catcher’s interference. He managed to pick off a runner at second base for the second out before inducing a flyout to end the threat without allowing any runs. In the ninth inning, after Moss allowed two baserunners, Hawk came in and struck out the final batter to complete the shutout.
The Bruins will conclude their series against Michigan tomorrow at Jackie Robinson Stadium with live coverage available on B1G+.
