The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) baseball team defeated Iowa 19-0 on Mar. 28 at Duane Banks Field, securing the series with a commanding run-rule victory.
This result extends UCLA’s winning streak to 18 games and keeps the Bruins perfect in Big Ten conference play with an 11-0 record. The margin of victory is UCLA’s largest since February 2023, when they won against Omaha by a score of 23-0.
The Bruins’ offense was highlighted by a season-high tying total of 15 hits, including three-hit performances from Cashel Dugger and Phoenix Call. Eight out of nine starters recorded hits, while the bottom third of the order contributed significantly by going a combined eight-for-ten with two home runs, nine runs batted in (RBIs), and eight runs scored. Dominic Cadiz led with five RBIs as part of his two-for-three day at the plate, featuring a grand slam for his second home run this season. Call added his first home run along with three RBIs and two runs scored.
On the pitching side, Michael Barnett improved to five wins without a loss after throwing five and one-third scoreless innings, striking out five batters without issuing any walks. He allowed only three hits before Jack O’Connor came in to preserve the shutout through the end of the game.
The game turned decisively in UCLA’s favor during a twelve-run fourth inning that saw sixteen batters come to the plate and included six hits alongside several hit-by-pitches and walks. The offensive surge continued throughout as UCLA added multiple runs in later innings while maintaining strong pitching performances.
UCLA will conclude its series against Iowa tomorrow morning at Duane Banks Field.
