UCLA baseball hands Texas A&M first loss with decisive 11-1 win

UCLA’s baseball team defeated Texas A&M 11-1 on Saturday night at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The win marks UCLA’s fifth victory over a ranked opponent this season and hands Texas A&M its first loss of the year.

UCLA, now with an 8-2 record, controlled the game throughout and recorded 14 hits compared to Texas A&M’s two. Each of UCLA’s nine starters had at least one hit. Will Gasparino, Mulivai Levu, Roman Martin, Dean West, and Dominic Cadiz each had multiple hits during the game.

Gasparino hit his ninth home run of the season as part of a two-hit performance. Brennan contributed three RBIs and scored once for a total involvement in four runs.

Michael Barnett improved his record to 3-0 after pitching five innings and allowing only one hit and one run while striking out four batters. He faced just two batters over the minimum through his first four innings. Wylan Moss pitched the final two innings for UCLA, giving up only one base runner and striking out three without allowing any runs.

UCLA scored four runs in the first inning with singles from West, Cholowsky, and Levu that brought in the opening run. Brennan added another with a sacrifice fly before Cashel Dugger hit a double down the left-field line to drive in two more runs.

Texas A&M managed their only run on Jake Duer’s solo home run in the second inning. In response, UCLA regained its lead when Martin delivered a two-out single that brought home two more runs.

The Bruins extended their advantage in the fifth inning when West singled to bring home Cadiz after his double. In the sixth inning, Brennan doubled for another RBI before Gasparino hit a three-run homer to left field. This sequence increased UCLA’s lead to ten runs, ending the game by run-rule after seven innings.
