The UCLA baseball team secured a 7-1 win and a series victory over Rutgers on Apr. 11, extending its winning streak to 26 games, the longest in program history and currently the longest active streak in Division I.
This achievement underscores UCLA’s dominance this season as they remain unbeaten in Big Ten conference play and have now claimed six consecutive Big Ten series victories.
Will Gasparino, Cashel Dugger, and Mulivai Levu each hit home runs during the game at Bainton Field. Aidan Espinoza also contributed with multiple hits and an RBI from the designated hitter position. Eight of nine starters recorded hits for UCLA, including Roch Cholowsky, Roman Martin, Payton Brennan, and Aiden Aguayo.
Starting pitcher Michael Barnett improved his record to 6-0 after delivering five innings of one-run baseball with a season-high seven strikeouts. Wylan Moss and Ian May combined for four scoreless innings out of the bullpen to secure the win.
UCLA scored early in the first inning following singles by Cholowsky and Levu but managed only one run after loading the bases. The team added another run in the second inning through timely hitting by Dugger and Espinoza. The fifth inning saw back-to-back home runs from Gasparino and Dugger as part of a three-run surge that broke open the game.
Levu capped off UCLA’s scoring with a solo home run in the eighth inning. The Bruins will return to Bainton Field for the series finale against Rutgers tomorrow morning.
