The UCLA baseball team defeated UC Irvine 11-1 on March 10 at Jackie Robinson Stadium, ending the game after seven innings due to the 10-run rule. The Bruins, ranked No. 1 and holding a record of 14-2 overall and 3-0 in Big Ten play, secured their eighth consecutive win.
This result highlights UCLA’s strong start to the season and continued dominance on the field. The team’s early offensive surge set the tone for the rest of the game.
Cashel Dugger led the offense with a grand slam as part of his two-hit performance, while Roch Cholowsky contributed a three-run home run—his ninth of the season. Dean West, Mulivai Levu, Roman Martin, and Phoenix Call also recorded multiple hits during the game. Angel Cervantes earned his first career win for UCLA by pitching three perfect innings and striking out two batters.
UCLA sent fifteen batters to the plate in a nine-run first inning that included seven hits and two home runs. The Bruins added another run in the second inning and restored their ten-run lead in the fourth with a sacrifice fly from Cholowsky. The bullpen maintained control throughout, with Zach Strickland escaping a bases-loaded jam in relief, Chris Grothues striking out two in a scoreless sixth inning, and Jake Swenson closing out the seventh by striking out all three batters he faced.
Looking ahead, UCLA will return to Big Ten play this weekend by hosting Michigan for a three-game series at Jackie Robinson Stadium beginning Friday, March 13.
