The UCLA baseball team won its Friday game against Iowa, securing a 5-2 victory at Duane Banks Field on Mar. 27. The Bruins, currently ranked No. 1, improved their record to 23-2 overall and remained undefeated in Big Ten conference play with a perfect 10-0 mark.
This win extends UCLA’s winning streak to 17 games and keeps the team at the top of the league standings. Early home runs from Mulivai Levu and Payton Brennan set the tone for the game, while all nine starters contributed one hit each for a balanced offensive performance.
Levu hit his seventh home run of the season with a two-run shot in the third inning, giving UCLA an early lead that it never relinquished. Brennan followed in the fourth inning with his fifth homer of the year—a first-pitch blast measured at 514 feet—helping fuel a three-run rally that included RBI contributions from Phoenix Call and Dean West.
Starting pitcher Logan Reddemann improved his record to 7-0 after pitching over six innings, allowing only one earned run and striking out nine batters. Easton Hawk closed out the game by escaping a bases-loaded situation in the ninth inning, earning his third save and maintaining his scoreless outing streak at six appearances.
Iowa attempted a comeback in the seventh inning with a two-run home run by pinch-hitter Mitch Wood but was unable to overcome UCLA’s lead. The teams are scheduled to meet again tomorrow morning for game two of their series.
