Four UCLA graduate students have been recognized for their innovative approaches to advancing health equity through the UCLA Health Equity Challenge. Their projects focus on improving conditions for Black men and youth affected by violence, foster youth, patients with autism in emergency departments, and children with disabilities.
The winning proposals incorporate unique elements such as barbershops, rescue dogs, simulated physical exams, and neighborhood park reimaginings. These ideas showcase how impactful solutions can emerge without extensive financial resources.
Kathryn Kietzman, director of the UCLA CHPR Health Equity Program, praised the students’ work: “We are lifted up by you, our student scholars. The ideas you have presented and developed have inspired and empower us.”
