Seven former UCLA softball players are set to participate in the first-ever Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) Championship Series. The series will feature the Talons and Bandits in a best-of-three matchup from July 26-28 at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Five of these alumni will play in the historic series: Maya Brady, Megan Faraimo, and Sharlize Palacios for the Talons; Bubba Nickles-Camarena and Delanie Wisz for the Bandits. Lisa Fernandez, general manager of the Talons, and Stacey Nuveman-Deniz, head coach of the Bandits, will also be involved as they lead their respective teams.
Two members of UCLA’s current softball staff are part of the Talons’ leadership team. Kirk Walker serves as Director of Softball Administration while Will Oldham is Director of Player Development & Data Analytics.
UCLA leads all college programs with its representation in AUSL. Earlier this week, Maya Brady returned from injury to make her AUSL debut against the Blaze. She impressed with strong performances on July 16 and 17 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Rachel Garcia competed as a pitcher for the Volts during AUSL’s inaugural season. As of July 18, she leads AUSL in innings pitched and strikeouts.
Jadelyn Allchin played for the Talons during the regular season before moving to the reserve pool.
The AUSL Championship Series games will be broadcast on ESPN2 on July 26-28.
