UCLA advanced to the National Championship final after defeating Cal Poly in the quarterfinals and Texas in the semifinals on May 2. The Bruins, seeded third, will face top-seeded Stanford in the final scheduled for Sunday, May 3 at 11:30 a.m. Central Time.
The match against Stanford marks UCLA’s sixth appearance in a National Championship final, while it will be Stanford’s first. UCLA previously won championships in 2018 and 2019 and last reached the title match in 2024.
UCLA ended a three-match losing streak against Texas by winning their semifinal encounter 3-2. Kenzie Brower and Mallory LaBreche secured the decisive point on court five with scores of 21-15 and an extended second set of 28-26 against Karin Zolnercikova and Macey Butler. Ava Williamson and Jesse Dueck contributed with a straight-set victory on court four, while Alexa Fernandez and Harper Cooper won convincingly on court three, helping UCLA build an early lead.
Earlier in the day, UCLA overcame Cal Poly with a score of 3-1. Sally Perez and Maggie Boyd delivered the first point for UCLA by defeating Ella Connor and Erin Inskeep. Brower and LaBreche also claimed victory on court five for their second consecutive match win, while Fernandez closed out proceedings with another straight-set win alongside Cooper.
Stanford reached its first championship match by beating Florida State in its semifinal round. The upcoming contest between UCLA (33-6) and Stanford will determine this season’s national champion.
