Thirty-eight faculty members and researchers from UCLA have been recognized as some of the world's most influential scholars in the sciences and social sciences. These individuals were included in the annual Highly Cited Researchers list, compiled by Clarivate, a global data and analytics firm. This list identifies scholars whose work has received significant citations in academic papers over the past decade.
The 2024 list features researchers who have authored studies ranking in the top 1% for scholarly citations worldwide. Bar Veinstein, president of academia and government at Clarivate, commented on this achievement: “We celebrate these Highly Cited Researchers whose exceptional and community-wide influence shapes the future of science, technology and academia globally. We honor not just their scientific achievement but their impact on driving innovation and addressing wider societal challenges to help transform our world.”
This year, a total of 6,636 researchers from 59 countries were acknowledged, representing a mere 0.1% of the global research community. The United States had the highest number of scholars on this list, with many hailing from California, followed by mainland China, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia.
UCLA's distinguished researchers named to the 2024 list include Nasim Annabi (chemical and biomolecular engineering), Aditya Bardia (medicine), Matthew Budoff (medicine), Jun Chen (bioengineering), Timothy Cloughesy (medicine), Giovanni Coppola (psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences), Michelle Craske (psychology), Xiangfeng Duan (inorganic chemistry), Bruce Dunn (materials science and engineering), David Eisenberg (biochemistry), Richard Finn (medicine), Gregg Fonarow (medicine), Edward Garon (medicine), Daniel Geschwind (neurology) among others across various fields.
These recognitions underscore UCLA's role in contributing significantly to academic advancements across diverse disciplines.
