UCLA has announced the extension of Martin Jarmond's contract as the university's athletics director through 2029. Initially appointed in 2020 on a six-year contract, Jarmond has led UCLA to significant achievements, including 18 conference titles and five NCAA championships.
Jarmond's leadership has seen UCLA transition to the Big Ten Conference, enhancing the university's national presence. His tenure has also resulted in partnerships with Nike and Jordan Brand, as well as initiatives with Champion of Westwood.
"In just four years, Martin has redefined UCLA Athletics — creating new opportunities for Bruins to compete on the biggest stages," said UCLA Interim Chancellor Darnell Hunt. "We are excited that he will continue to shepherd our legendary athletics program into a new era."
Since his appointment, UCLA captured five NCAA championships, raising its total to 123. The move to the Big Ten Conference marked a pivotal moment for UCLA Athletics, positioning them prominently in Division I sports.
Jarmond's strategic plan "Fours Up" aims to guide UCLA Athletics over the next five academic years. Under his guidance, all Bruins teams achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher in spring 2024.
Jarmond also secured an 11-year partnership with JMI Sports and reinforced ties with Champion of Westwood. His efforts focus on expanding opportunities for student-athletes amid changing college sports dynamics.
“It has been an honor to steward UCLA Athletics through four of the most transformative years in collegiate athletics," said Jarmond. "We’ve accomplished a lot in four years, but there’s much more to be done."
A native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Jarmond holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and Ohio University.
