On November 16, members of Windward’s Cheer Team teamed up with SPY (Safe Place for Youth) for a special service learning event! A team member from SPY came to speak to the team about the organization, so they could learn more about the homeless issues that affect our city, and other ways to support. To assist SPY, a small organization that focuses on helping homeless youth reenter school and/or work environments, Cheer members made education and employment kits filled with all the basic essentials recipients might need. Students also added a heartfelt touch by way of personalized notes in each care package. In all, the team made over 40 kits that have already been distributed to those in need.
Marianna Stasinos ’26, who helped to organize the event, found the whole experience rewarding. “It brings me so much joy knowing that my team and I went out there and helped so many people’s lives in a truly impactful way.” She continued, “This event definitely made the team closer, as we all shared an evening with the same goal in mind—to help other youth.”
