WINDWARD SCHOOL: Windward Hosts Women’s History Month Panels

Businesswomen

Windward School issued the following announcement on Mar. 13.

The theme of this year’s Women’s History Month is Women Providing Healing and Promoting Hope, an homage to women on the frontlines of the pandemic. On March 10 and 11, Windward hosted two community panels in honor of Women’s History Month. Middle School students had the great fortune of hearing from Windward faculty and staff members Katie Thoma (Visual Media Arts), Tammy Clem (Counseling), Frances Jones (Athletics), and Lauren Rice (Enrollment/Financial Aid Management). Upper School students were treated to an all parent panel discussion. Panelists included Francie Calfo (parent of an alum and Upper School student), Mirna Cardenas (Upper and Middle School parent), Cori Morris (Upper School parent) and Juliet Oh (Middle School parent).

Faculty moderators Ashley Goodman and Dahlia Setiyawan set the tone for each assembly by illuminating the importance and significance of Women’s History Month and sharing information about past and current inequities with women’s wages, as well as inequities in government representation in the US and around the world. Parent and faculty/staff panelists answered questions about their childhood dreams and shared powerful stories about their life vocations and passions. They also offered advice and encouragement to students about the importance of being allies and upstanders when they see or hear something that has a negative impact on a fellow community member.

Thank you as always to our amazing speakers and volunteers!
