UCLA senior men’s golfer Pablo Ereño has been named to the 2024-25 Academic All-America Men’s At-Large first team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). This marks a historic achievement as Ereño becomes UCLA’s first-ever men’s golf student-athlete to earn first-team recognition.

Ereño, who graduated with a degree in mathematics/economics, has been recognized as a three-time Academic All-District Team selection during his sophomore, junior, and senior years. He also earned third-team Division I All-America honors from Golfweek and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) this season.

Now a two-time Academic All-America honoree, Ereño stands out as the first UCLA men’s golf student-athlete to achieve first-team distinction. “In addition to securing third-team Academic All-America honors last season,” the press release noted, “Patrick Cantlay was a second-team Academic All-America recipient in 2011-12.”

Ereño finished his collegiate career ranked third on UCLA’s all-time list in scoring average (71.32) and first for most career rounds under par (73). He also ranked second on the Bruins’ career list for most rounds in the 60s (45) and tied for fifth with 16 top-10 finishes.

He concluded UCLA’s 2024-25 season with a sixth-place finish through stroke play at the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., shooting 5-under 283 through four rounds. This made him UCLA’s first top-10 individual finisher since Lorens Chan in 2014. Additionally, he was named Big Ten Men’s Golfer of the Year after helping the Bruins secure the team title at the 2025 Big Ten Championships. Ereño ended his senior season with a team-leading scoring average of 70.23, which is the second-best season mark in program history.

In September 2024, Ereño won his first career medal at The Tindall tournament in Sammamish, Wash., opening his senior year with an impressive score of 11-under 202 over two days.

UCLA student-athletes have accumulated nine Academic All-America honors so far this season—the second-highest number achieved by the school in a single year. Over two seasons, UCLA has garnered 19 Academic All-America honors, bringing its overall total to 159.

The CSC Academic All-Americans from UCLA for the year include: Pablo Ereño (Men’s Golf), Emma Malabuyo and Brooklyn Moors (Gymnastics), Kiki Rice (Women’s Basketball), Carson Schwesinger (Football), Alexander Hoogmartens (Men’s Tennis), Maggie Boyd (Beach Volleyball), Jessica Clements (Softball), and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer (Women’s Tennis).
