The UCLA men’s tennis team, ranked No. 20 nationally, will travel to Michigan this week for Big Ten Conference matches against the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, according to a March 25 announcement.
These upcoming matches are important as they test the Bruins’ six-match winning streak and their position within the Big Ten standings. The Bruins currently hold an overall record of 11-3 and remain undefeated in conference play at 5-0.
UCLA will first face No. 42-ranked Michigan on Friday at the Varsity Tennis Center, followed by a match against No. 28-ranked Michigan State on Sunday at the MSU Tennis Center. Live streaming and scoring are available for both events through university platforms, with additional updates provided via the team’s X account.
Recent results include home victories over Wisconsin (6-1) and Nebraska (6-0), where Cassius Chinlund clinched both wins for UCLA. Chinlund was recognized as Big Ten Freshman of the Week after these performances, having improved his dual singles record to 9-2 this season.
The Bruins lead their all-time series against both opponents: they are undefeated in ten previous meetings with Michigan and have won both prior encounters with Michigan State. Notable individual achievements include junior Spencer Johnson reaching his career milestone of 100 total wins across singles and doubles competition during a recent victory over USC.
Head coach Billy Martin continues his long tenure at UCLA, now in his thirty-third year leading the program. The team returns four top singles players from last season’s squad that captured its first-ever Big Ten Tournament championship by defeating Ohio State on April 27, ending that school’s seventy-six match home winning streak.
Looking ahead, new additions such as Cassius Chinlund and Andy Nguyen join established contributors like Emon van Loben Sels—who has developed a reputation for clutch performances—and All-Americans Spencer Johnson and Aadarsh Tripathi as UCLA seeks to extend its strong start through challenging conference play.
