Lauren Betts named UCLA student-athlete of the week after standout performances

Senior Lauren Betts from UCLA Women’s Basketball has been named the Student-Athlete of the Week, an award presented by La Victoria, for her performances during competitions held from February 10 to 16.

Betts, a center, averaged 19 points, 10.5 rebounds, and four assists per game as UCLA went undefeated in two games that week. On Wednesday against No. 13 Michigan State, she scored 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting and contributed seven rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. In the following game against Indiana on February 15, Betts recorded her league-leading tenth double-double in the first half with 12 points and ten rebounds before finishing with 16 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, and one block. She also secured nine offensive rebounds compared to Indiana’s four. With these results, UCLA remains unbeaten in Big Ten play at 15-0 as they pursue their first outright regular season conference championship.

This is Betts’ thirteenth career Student-Athlete of the Week honor at UCLA.

Other nominees for this week’s award included Jordan Chiles (Gymnastics), Megan Grant (Softball), Bia Mantellato (Women’s Water Polo), and Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck (Women’s Indoor Track & Field).

The list of previous winners includes student-athletes from various sports such as soccer, water polo, volleyball, football, basketball, gymnastics, and softball.
