Senior Lauren Betts of UCLA Women’s Basketball was named Student-Athlete of the Week presented by La Victoria for competitions held between March 31 and April 6, according to an announcement from the university on Apr. 8.
Betts received this recognition after being named Most Outstanding Player for the 2026 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship, where she led UCLA to its first-ever NCAA title. This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for both Betts and the program.
During the tournament, Betts became the first player—male or female—to record at least 125 points, 50 rebounds, and 15 blocks while shooting at least 65 percent in a single NCAA tournament. She finished with back-to-back double-doubles against top-seeded Texas and South Carolina, making 13 out of her last 20 field goal attempts in those games. Over her career at UCLA, Betts set a new school record with 235 blocked shots (264 including her entire college career) and joined Denise Curry and Natalie Williams as one of only three players in program history to achieve more than 1,800 points and over 1,000 rebounds.
This is Betts’ fifteenth time earning Student-Athlete of the Week honors at UCLA—a new record for the school. Other nominees for this week’s award included Jordan Chiles from gymnastics and Sally Perez from beach volleyball.
Previous winners during this academic year have come from various sports such as soccer, water polo, football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, gymnastics, and beach volleyball. The list highlights standout performances across multiple athletic programs within UCLA.
