Dr. Kari Nadeau has been appointed as the next dean of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, with her tenure set to begin on July 1, according to a Mar. 24 announcement.
Nadeau’s appointment is significant for the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), which is recognized for its academic excellence and contributions to public health. Her leadership is expected to build upon the school’s research, education, and community impact.
Nadeau currently serves as chair of environmental health at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and holds a professorship in medicine at Harvard Medical School. She has directed major research initiatives in allergies, climate impacts on health, and disease prevention. Previously, she spent over twenty years at Stanford University School of Medicine.
“I am delighted to accept the position of dean of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health,” Nadeau said. “My career has prepared me to build on the Fielding School’s excellence in research, education and community impact. I am deeply grateful and honored to join UCLA and to contribute to furthering the school’s growth and success.”
Her work spans allergy treatment innovation, chronic disease research, climate-related health threats such as wildfire smoke exposure, and policy guidance at local through international levels. She has held roles with organizations including the World Health Organization scientific advisory board and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Children’s Protection Committee.
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Darnell Hunt said in a campus message that “Dr. Nadeau’s academic, professional and administrative experience and achievements…position her well to lead” UCLA’s public health school.
